We batted first on a very hot day. Geoff and Barney opened the batting and soon put on fifty before Geof was bowled.Paul H joined Barney at the crease and was going along smoothley untill he was out LBW and with Steve D going first ball it looked like we might not put up a good score. But Barney had other idea's as he raced to his maiden club 50 but unfortunate for him that is where it ended. So in came George Corbin to join Aaron at the crease for someone so young he sure showed confidence as he helped Aaron to push the score along. When George was finally out in came Corbin senior who was one of the original Pilgrims and had not played at Swan green for 20 years. Well he made up for it with some powerfull hitting which included three 6's and eight 4's as he Aaron (28) Sean D (12) and Martin (15) raced the final score to 232 all out with Graham on and unbeaten 69.
After a fantastic barbeque tea it was our turn to field and we soon had Swan green reeling at 11-3 and even after that it looked certain that a draw or maybe even a win was on the cards. At 70 odd for seven a win looked very likely with good spells from Sean,Jocky and young George Corbin, but Swan Green had other ideas as the last three batsmen obviously top order batsmen knocked us all round the ground scoring well over a hundred from 10 of the last 12 overs. needing 11 to win from the last two overs. Paul Harding was struck for a six off his first ball and it spelt game over for us, only to see the batsmen drive his next ball hard and low back to as he took what i thought was a clean legitimate catch but Paul as sporting as he is claimed it was a bump ball and then turned and ran out the batsmen at the non stiking end as he was backing up to far. So a thrilling game ended with a win for the Pilgrims by seven runs. Thanks to Swan Green for a great game and well done to all the pilgrims for never giving up on the game |
